Hello to all my fellow bookworms! I know there are a lot of us out there. For years now, I have wanted to host and participate in reading challenges. For those who may not know what I'm referring to, a reading challenge is a game of sorts where participants are encouraged to read books, either within a certain period of time, following a specific theme, or both. Participants are then asked to review the book(s) they read and the host (in this case, yours truly) raffles off an item (or items) for which everyone who participates is eligible to win. I would like to try and do this on a regular basis in the hopes that it will get me reading again and introduce me to some new genres and authors I may not have otherwise discovered.
Since this is my first month hosting such an event, I'll make this pretty open-ended. As 2011 draws to a close, I'm sure you all have books on your TBR (To Be Read) list, books that you have wanted to read but never got around to reading. So this month, while everyone else is getting tipsy on eggnog and partying it up, let's have a seat by the fire with hot cocoa in hand and tackle our TBR lists. I'll run this challenge from December 1-31, 2011. Any book is fair game, fiction or nonfiction, and in any format (audio, Braille, large print, etc). Once you've read a book, please just post a book review (title, author, brief synopsis, and your opinions about the book) here in this topic. Since I and others may be interested in reading the books you read in the future, try to avoid spoilers or indicate when you will be putting spoilers in your review.
Each review will earn you an entry into a raffle and my gift this time around will be a $50 gift certificate to Amazon. I shall use Randomizer to select a winner and contact the lucky recipient by private message to work out delivery details. Thanks and happy reading!
Great idea. I spend a lot of time listening to books and am currently working my way through some books with Christmas themes. I mostly read mysteries and romances. I'll be starting a new book either tomorrow, December 1 or the next day and will post the NLS synopses along with a review.
Count me in. Sounds like fun.
Bob
Yeah!
yay. sounds great. i'm in.
Here's what I've been reading in December. Not surprisingly, I've been reading Christmas themed books. One was called Candy Cane Murder. This is in the middle of a series by Joann Fluke and contains three novellas. Candy Cane Murder is by Joann Fluke, and the other two novellas are also in the middle of series by two other authors. All three are mysteries involving candy canes in one way or another.
Another series I recently started is called the Puzzle Lady series by Parnell Hall about an older lady living in a small Connecticut town who constructs crossword puzzles for a living. Actually, it's revealed in the first book that it's actually her niece who does the puzzle construction. Anyway, for Christmas I read the fourth book in the series called A Puzzle in a Pear Tree. Death threats and murder ruin the town's Christmas pageant.
I also read one called The Last Noel by Heather Graham about criminals who rob a jewelry store and kill the owner on Christmas Eve. When a blizzard causes them to wreck their car, they knock on the door of a nearby house and hold the family inside hostage for the rest of that evening and Christmas Day.
so all i have to do is post a review for each book i've read this month? you want separate entries for each book? i'm all for this. i love to read and who isn't up for a chance at a gift card for doing something they love.
forewarned i read a book every day or so. here come the posts
I just finished devil's food cake murder by Joanne Fluke. While I'm not typically into what I consider chick books, I've become addicted to this series and other like it. Hannah Swenson is a cookie baking murder solving chick. In this latest book, it's about a pastor filling in for the normal one so he and his new wife can finally take their honeymoon. The pastor is murdered and hannah finds the body as usual. Then she sets out to solve the murder with the help of her sisters, mom, and one of her boyfriends, Norman.
Hannah is also dating a cop named Mike. I don't want to ruin the series for anyone. All I can say is that the ending of this book finally drops a bomb on the love triangle. I actually can't wait for the next one to come ont.
Does this count as a review? I'm horrible at writing them. lol
I'd say that counts. I also love the Hannah Swensen series but haven't gotten that far in it yet. I just recently read Candy Cane Murder which I mentioned in my above post.
